The essence of the project is drawn from the prevalent need of legal aid services for persons with disabilities in Northern Uganda, the need to train paralegals in our societies to equip them with legal knowledge in order to offer those services in the grassroots and also the need to train those working in the field of administration of justice, including police and local government leaders about the needs of persons with disabilities in accessing justice. Many persons with disabilities have not been able to get any legal redress for the violence they have suffered mainly because of ignorance of their human rights and the law and lack of resources to do so. This project is implemented in the districts of lira, Gulu, Amuru and Arua.

The main objectives of training paralegals are as follows:

  • To equip paralegals with capacity to analyze legal problems.
  • Engage in legal writing.
  • Effectively communicate legal findings
  • Effectively assist attorneys and other legal professionals with the routine and unique aspects of legal practice.
