LAPD Uganda Achievements
LAPD has enabled over 1500 persons with disabilities attain justice through legal aid provision and this has been achieved through court representation and alternative means of dispute resolution.

In area of public interest litigation (PIL), LAPD has handled two strategic litigation cases i.e. the case of Legal Action for Persons with Disabilities vs. Ag & Ors (Constitutional Petition No. 10 of 2010), in which LAPD petitioned for political representation rights of PWDs. LAPD has also ventured into accessibility, as seen in the case of Legal Action for Persons with Disabilities vs. Attorney General & Ors (Miscellaneous Cause No. 146 of 2011).
LAPD through its strategic litigation has led to the change of legislation in the parliamentary election act in relation to the election of persons with disabilities in Uganda. With LAPD’s intervention LAPD the National Council on Disability was enacted that has the mandate to organize elections of persons with disabilities.
The building and control act has incorporated the physical accessibility standards for PWDs. substantial modifications have been done at the faculty of law and Makerere University to ease accessibility changes of PWDs.
With advocacy and awareness raising campaigns LAPD has been able to train paralegals in the northern Uganda, Cause awareness of the CRPD to government officials, stakeholders and persons with disabilities. Trained the judiciary especially magistrates on issues of disability and has held several media campaigns aimed at promoting the rights of persons with disabilities in Uganda.
